Description
Whirlfloc Tablets — Bulk 50 Pack is the economical choice for regular home brewers who use kettle fining in every batch. Whirlfloc is a blend of Irish Moss and purified Kappa carrageenan that works during the boil to coagulate haze-forming proteins and beta-glucans, causing them to drop out of solution during cooling and whirlpooling rather than remaining suspended in the finished beer. Add one tablet to the boiling wort in the last 5–10 minutes and it dissolves rapidly, beginning the clarification process that carries through chilling, fermentation, and into the glass. Stocked at Yeast Platform for fast Australian dispatch.

How Whirlfloc Tablets Work
The carrageenan in Whirlfloc has a negative electrical charge at boiling temperatures that attracts positively charged protein molecules — the primary source of chill haze in beer. When these proteins are drawn together (flocculation), they form larger particles that settle rapidly during the whirlpool rest and cold break. Beta-glucans from the malt, which create a different type of haze and can also clog grain beds during mashing, are similarly coagulated. The result is a significantly reduced protein and polyphenol load in the fermentor, which means less cold-break material, faster yeast flocculation, and a clearer finished beer — all without any chemical addition that affects flavour or shelf life.
Whirlfloc vs Irish Moss
Whirlfloc tablets are preferred over loose Irish Moss by most home brewers who have tried both, for two reasons. First, the tablet format is pre-measured — one tablet per 23L batch, no measuring, no moss everywhere. Second, the addition of purified Kappa carrageenan to the Irish Moss base significantly improves clarification effectiveness compared to Irish Moss alone. In head-to-head comparisons, Whirlfloc-treated batches consistently produce clearer wort going into the fermentor and faster-clearing finished beer. The 50-pack bulk format means a regular brewer working through 10–15 batches per year has a year-plus supply on hand without the cost premium of buying individual packets.
Kettle Fining for Australian Home Brewers
In Australian conditions — where fermentation temperatures can run higher than ideal during summer — chill haze can be more pronounced in finished beers due to elevated fermentation temperatures producing more haze-active protein compounds. Using Whirlfloc in the boil reduces the base level of haze-forming proteins before fermentation begins, making the finished beer less sensitive to temperature variation during conditioning. For lager brewers and pilsner enthusiasts, Whirlfloc is effectively mandatory — German-style clarity in a lager is very difficult to achieve without kettle fining.
