Description
Carbonation Drops eliminate the measuring and mess of traditional bulk priming sugar when bottle-conditioning your homebrew. Each 250g pack contains approximately 70 pre-measured drops — drop one into a 375ml bottle, two into a 750ml bottle, seal, and wait. The drops dissolve completely, providing a consistent dose of priming sugar that drives secondary fermentation and produces reliable carbonation across every bottle in the batch without hot spots or variable pressure. No scales, no boiling sugar syrup, no risk of over-priming. In stock at Yeast Platform and shipping from our Australian warehouse.

How Carbonation Drops Work
Carbonation drops are pre-measured dextrose tablets that act as individual priming sugar additions at the bottle level. When you add a drop to a bottle of fully fermented beer and seal it, the residual yeast in the beer consumes the dextrose over 1–2 weeks at room temperature, producing CO₂ that is absorbed into the beer under the bottle’s sealed pressure. The result is natural carbonation identical to traditional bottle conditioning — the difference is that every bottle gets exactly the same amount of sugar, so carbonation is consistent from the first bottle to the last, without the common problem of variable carbonation that comes from bulk priming in a bucket where mixing is uneven.
When to Use Carbonation Drops
Use carbonation drops when your beer has reached terminal gravity (confirmed by two consecutive stable hydrometer readings 48 hours apart) and is ready to package. Sanitise your bottles as normal, add the drop, then fill and cap. Leave the sealed bottles at 18–22°C for 1–2 weeks to allow secondary fermentation to complete, then cold-condition in the fridge for a further week to improve clarity and carbonation consistency before drinking. Carbonation drops are not suitable for kegging — for keg carbonation, force carbonate with CO₂. They’re also not appropriate for beer that hasn’t reached terminal gravity, as residual fermentable sugars can combine with the drops to over-carbonate and create bottle bombs.
Carbonation Drops for Australian Home Brewers
Bottle conditioning is the most common packaging method for Australian home brewers — most first-time setups involve a bottling bucket and a capper rather than a full kegging system. Carbonation drops are particularly valuable in this context because they simplify the bottling process enough that it becomes genuinely quick and repeatable. For brewers bottling 23L batches (roughly 60 × 375ml bottles or 30 × 750ml bottles), a single 250g pack of approximately 70 drops covers a full batch with drops to spare. Combined with a well-attenuated, clear beer that’s had adequate cold conditioning time, carbonation drops are a reliable path to commercially consistent bottle-conditioned homebrew.

Use carbonation drops alongside Whirlfloc Tablets earlier in the brewing process for a clearer, better-presenting finished beer, and Yeast Nutrient during fermentation to ensure the residual yeast that drives bottle conditioning is healthy and active.
Works Well With
- Whirlfloc Tablets 10 Pack — add to the last 10 minutes of the boil for a cleaner beer that carbonates and clears faster in the bottle
- Whirlfloc Tablets Bulk 50 Pack — same clarifying tablets in an economical bulk pack for regular brewers
- Yeast Nutrient — healthy yeast at terminal gravity means the residual yeast that drives bottle conditioning is active and reliable
- Safale US-05 — the most widely used bottle-conditioning yeast for pale ales, IPAs, and wheat beers; leaves enough healthy yeast in suspension for reliable priming
