Description
Whirlfloc Tablets — 10 Pack is the ideal starting point for home brewers trying kettle fining for the first time, or for occasional brewers who don’t need the bulk 50-pack quantity. Each tablet is a quick-dissolving blend of Irish Moss and purified Kappa carrageenan — add one to the boiling wort in the last 5–10 minutes, and the carrageenan’s charge-based protein coagulation process begins immediately, dragging haze-forming proteins and beta-glucans out of suspension before they reach the fermentor. The result is a significantly cleaner wort going in and a clearer, brighter finished beer coming out. In stock at Yeast Platform, shipped from our Australian warehouse.

How Whirlfloc Works — and Why It’s Better Than Irish Moss Alone
Irish Moss has been used as a kettle fining agent for centuries — the carrageenan it naturally contains attracts and binds haze-forming proteins via charge-based interaction. Whirlfloc enhances this mechanism by combining Irish Moss with a purified, standardised Kappa carrageenan extract, delivering a more consistent and more powerful clarifying action than Irish Moss alone at the same dose. The purified carrageenan’s charge density is higher and more uniform than raw Irish Moss, which means better protein coagulation and more complete beta-glucan removal in a single tablet addition. The tablet format also eliminates the weighing step and the mess of loose Irish Moss — one tablet per batch, no equipment required.
When to Add and What to Expect
Add one Whirlfloc tablet with 5–10 minutes remaining in the boil. It will dissolve within 1–2 minutes. During the remaining boil time and the post-boil whirlpool rest, the coagulated protein-carrageenan complexes settle to the bottom of the kettle. When you drain to the fermentor (via a filter, whirlpool, or simply by leaving the settled trub behind), a significantly lower load of haze-causing material enters fermentation. The visible effect in the glass: your finished beer will clear faster during conditioning, chill haze will be reduced, and the beer will hold its clarity at serving temperature for longer. For ale styles, the improvement is noticeable; for lagers and pilsners, Whirlfloc is close to mandatory for achieving the expected commercial clarity standard.
10-Pack vs 50-Pack — Which to Choose
The 10-pack is the right choice if you’re trying Whirlfloc for the first time, if you brew occasionally (fewer than 10 batches per year), or if you want to keep a stock of tablets specifically for one-off special batches. At one tablet per batch, 10 tablets covers 10 brews. If you brew regularly — fortnightly or more frequently — the Whirlfloc 50-Pack offers significantly better value per tablet and means you’re unlikely to run out mid-session. Both packs are the same tablet; the decision is purely about brewing frequency and storage preference.

Works Well With
- Whirlfloc Tablets Bulk 50 Pack — the same tablet in an economical bulk pack for regular brewers going through more than 10 batches per year
- Yeast Nutrient — add to the boil alongside Whirlfloc to support healthy yeast and minimise haze contribution from stressed yeast cells
- Carbonation Drops — the packaging-side complement; Whirlfloc starts the clarity process in the kettle, Carbonation Drops finish the fermentation arc in the bottle
- StellarClean PBW — clean your kettle before each brew so Whirlfloc is working on wort proteins, not residual organic soil from the previous batch
