Description
The Still Spirits Classic 8 Turbo Pack is an all-in-one fermentation kit for home distillers, combining Classic 8 Turbo Yeast with the nutrients and mineral absorbents needed to ferment a high-ABV spirit wash with consistent results. The pack is designed to ferment either 8kg of turbo sugar in 25L for maximum ABV, or 6kg in 21L for a faster fermentation at a lower gravity — giving you flexibility depending on whether you’re optimising for yield or speed. It produces a clean, high-ABV neutral wash suitable as the base spirit for whiskey, vodka, rum, and other distilled spirits. In stock at Yeast Platform.

What’s Included and Why
The Classic 8 Turbo Pack combines three components that work together through fermentation and post-fermentation treatment. The yeast is a high-alcohol-tolerant strain selected for rapid sugar utilisation and clean fermentation at elevated gravity and temperature. The nutrients (included separately in the pack) support yeast health through the entire fermentation arc of a high-gravity wash, reducing the risk of stalled ferments and sulphuric off-flavours that are common in nutrient-poor sugar-wash fermentations. The mineral absorbents are added post-fermentation to the finished wash before distillation — they bind and remove higher alcohols and congeners that contribute to harsh flavour in the distillate, resulting in a cleaner base spirit.
Fermentation Process and Timeline
Dissolve the turbo sugar in warm water, top up to volume, cool to pitching temperature (25–30°C), and add the Classic 8 pack contents in the order indicated on the pack. Fermentation typically begins within hours and completes in 3–5 days for the fast recipe and 5–7 days for the high-ABV recipe — significantly faster than most ale or lager fermentations. Allow the wash to clear naturally or use a clearing agent before distillation. Add the mineral absorbents to the cleared wash, stir, allow to stand for the recommended time, then rack the clear wash off the settled mineral compound before distilling. This final step is what distinguishes the Complete Pack from the Turbo Yeast sold alone.
Classic 8 for Australian Home Distillers
Home distillation for personal use is legal in New Zealand but currently requires a licence in Australia — home brewers using this product for wash fermentation should be familiar with the relevant regulations in their state or territory. The Classic 8 Turbo Pack is designed for the controlled, repeatable production of a clean ferment base, and is popular with Australian home brewers who use the finished wash for spirit extraction in legal distillation setups, for use in essence-based spirit making (which does not require distillation), or who are preparing for regulatory changes. Works Well With
- Classic 8 Turbo Yeast 240g — the standalone yeast from this pack, available separately for experienced distillers who already have nutrients and absorbents on hand
- Yeast Nutrient — supplement the included nutrients for particularly high-gravity washes above 1.100 OG where additional mineral support reduces stall risk
- Carbonation Drops — if you’re also homebrewing beer alongside your spirit wash, carbonation drops simplify bottling for the beer side of your setup
- StellarClean PBW — clean your fermentation vessel between spirit wash batches to prevent carryover contamination
