Description
The Quantum Brite VIS hop extract delivers the distinctive Australian character of Vic Secret — tropical fruit, pine, and passionfruit in a bold, clean aroma profile — in concentrated form that replaces approximately 150g of T90 Vic Secret hop pellets per 5ml bottle. Developed by Hop Products Australia (HPA) and released in 2013, Vic Secret quickly established itself as Australia’s answer to the American resinous-tropical hop profile: it shares Simcoe’s pine backbone but shifts the secondary aromatics firmly toward passionfruit and tropical fruit rather than Simcoe’s catty notes. In extract form, VIS delivers that Australian hop character with full consistency and no plant material to manage. In stock at Yeast Platform, shipped from our Australian warehouse.

Flavour Profile
Vic Secret’s aroma signature bridges the Australian and American hop traditions. The primary note is a tropical fruit and passionfruit character that reads as distinctly Southern Hemisphere — similar in direction to Galaxy but with a cleaner, less citrusy expression and a more prominent pine backbone. That pine quality gives VIS structure that makes it effective in both hazy IPA applications (where it adds resinous depth to tropical fruit blends) and West Coast-style IPAs (where it stands in for or blends with Simcoe). Vic Secret extract in the VIS form is particularly well-suited to the Australian IPA style category — a tropical-meets-resinous profile that’s distinct from either the American West Coast or the New Zealand tropical directions.
Dosing Quantum Brite VIS
Add during cold crash (1–4°C) to the fermenter or keg via the included pipette. Shake well before measuring. Start at 1.5ml per 23L batch — Vic Secret’s pine note can be assertive in isolation, so starting conservatively and adjusting up lets you calibrate the tropical/pine balance for your recipe. At 2–2.5ml per 23L the pine and tropical characters are roughly equal in intensity, producing the distinctive Vic Secret profile most associated with Australian craft pale ales. VIS blends naturally with GXY (Galaxy) at a 50/50 ratio for a broader Australian tropical hop profile, or with SIM (Simcoe) where the combined pine character is intentional and supported by a robust malt bill. Refrigerate after opening; use within 6 months.
Vic Secret and Australian Home Brewing
Vic Secret pellets are an HPA variety and while they’re grown domestically, they’re subject to the same export demand and harvest allocation pressures as Galaxy — Australian home brewers have sometimes found Vic Secret harder to source than its domestic origin might suggest. The Quantum Brite VIS extract removes that supply uncertainty and also solves the storage problem: Vic Secret’s high oil content means pellets degrade relatively quickly even under refrigeration. VIS extract, stored at room temperature until opening, maintains consistent aromatic character without the freezer management burden that comes with premium pellet hops. For brewers producing Australian pale ales as a core recipe, VIS extract is a practical year-round alternative.
In stock at Yeast Platform — ships from our Australian warehouse. Pair VIS with Quantum Brite GXY (Galaxy) for a distinctly Australian tropical hop blend.
Recommended Yeasts for Quantum Brite VIS
Vic Secret’s tropical-pine character suits both clean West Coast fermenters and juicy NEIPA strains. These yeasts bring out different facets of the VIS profile.
- Safale US-05 — neutral American ale strain; the clean base for Australian pale ales where VIS extract is the centrepiece aroma — tropical, pine, no competing esters
- Lallemand Verdant IPA — stone fruit esters from Verdant bridge beautifully with VIS’s passionfruit character; the right pairing for hazy IPA recipes using Vic Secret extract
- White Labs WLPD066 London Fog — full, silky NEIPA body; complements VIS’s tropical character while softening the pine note for a rounder, more hazy-style expression
- Mangrove Jack’s M36 Liberty Bell — high flocculation, clean finish; excellent for Australian pale ales and dry, hop-forward lager hybrids where Vic Secret extract provides late-aroma punch
