Description
The Quantum Brite NRN hop extract captures the intensely tropical character of Nectaron — New Zealand’s most sought-after modern hop variety — in a 5ml concentrate that replaces approximately 150g of T90 Nectaron pellets for dry hopping. Nectaron was developed by Plant and Food Research New Zealand and released commercially in 2021; it quickly became one of the most in-demand premium hops globally due to its pineapple, guava, passionfruit, and white peach aroma signature. In extract form, NRN delivers that character with total consistency and without the pellet scarcity issues that have historically limited access to this variety in the Australian home brewing market. Flavour Profile
Nectaron’s aroma is among the most distinctly tropical of any hop variety: forward pineapple and guava dominate, with white peach and passionfruit in the mid-palate and a clean, fruit-forward finish. There’s little of the dankness or earthiness present in American varieties — Nectaron is pure tropical brightness, which makes it exceptional for single-hop hazy IPAs and pale ales where clean fruit character is the design goal. At higher doses the tropical intensity can become almost juice-like, which is the quality that makes Nectaron extract-worthy for brewers seeking commercially comparable hazy IPA aroma profiles.
Dosing Quantum Brite NRN
Add during cold crash (1–4°C), to fermenter or keg, using the included pipette. Shake well before measuring. Start at 1.5ml per 23L and taste before adjusting. Nectaron’s tropical intensity is high, so the extract performs well at the lower end of the dosing range — 2ml per 23L produces a very forward tropical pineapple character that some brewers find sits at maximum pleasant intensity. NRN combines particularly well with GXY (Galaxy) extract at a 60/40 NRN:GXY ratio to blend pineapple-forward Nectaron with Galaxy’s softer passionfruit and citrus notes, producing a tropical character modelled on popular NZ/AU premium hazy IPAs. Refrigerate after opening; use within 6 months.
Nectaron and Australian Home Brewing Access
Nectaron pellets are grown under Plant Variety Rights in New Zealand and have been subject to limited export availability and high per-kilogram pricing since release. For Australian home brewers, this has meant Nectaron has often been cost-prohibitive for regular use or simply unavailable during certain seasons. Quantum Brite NRN removes both barriers: consistent year-round stock, precise micro-dosing that eliminates waste, and no freezer requirement before opening. A single 5ml bottle yields the aroma equivalent of 150g of premium Nectaron pellets — stored at room temperature on the shelf until you’re ready to brew.

Recommended Yeasts for Quantum Brite NRN
Nectaron’s intense tropical pineapple character performs best with yeasts that support or amplify fruit expression without adding competing earthy or phenolic notes.
- Lallemand Verdant IPA — the benchmark pairing for NRN extract; Verdant’s stone fruit esters and full, soft mouthfeel complement Nectaron’s pineapple intensity for a premium tropical NEIPA
- White Labs WLPD066 London Fog — produces the pillowy, hazy body that characterises the best Nectaron-forward NEIPAs; tropical ester production aligns naturally with NRN extract
- Safale US-05 — neutral fermentation profile; ideal when you want Nectaron’s tropical character to be the sole aroma driver without competing ester contribution
- Mangrove Jack’s M36 Liberty Bell — high flocculation and clean finish; ideal for hazy pale ales where clarity is less important than tropical aroma intensity
